Child Nutrition

The mission of the Putnam County Schools Child Nutrition Program is to ensure that safe, nutritious and appealing meals are available to all students.

All students will have access to a healthy breakfast and lunch meal while at school. The health and nutrition of our students continues to be a top priority for Putnam County. All meals, and all foods and beverages sold or served at school during the school day, meet state and federal requirements which are based on the USDA Dietary Guidelines. We provide students with access to a variety of affordable and appealing foods that meet the health and nutrition needs of students, which contribute to student learning success.

As of February 2013, each of the Putnam County Schools were nationally recognized as a Bronze Distinction Healthy US School Challenge award winning school. This is a USDA certification initiative that recognizes school meal programs for their efforts in improving the quality of foods served, and provides students with additional nutrition and physical education opportunities.

The Putnam County Child Nutrition Office plans meals that meet federal and state requirements, while offering free or reduced-price meals to students whose families are income eligible. Parents may request a paper application from the school secretary or contact the Putnam County Child Nutrition Office at 304-586-0500 ext. 1764, or apply online at
