2019 Putnam County Schools Spelling Bee trophies sponsored by Poca Valley Bank.Twenty-two talented students from across Putnam County came together to compete in the 2019 Putnam County Schools Spelling Bee hosted at Buffalo High School on Thursday, January 17.

After an hour and a half long bee ending in 14 Rounds, we crowned a new PCS Spelling Bee Champion. Congratulations to Jensine Atkins of Winfield Middle School!

Jensine correctly spelled the anticipated Championship Word, "iguana," receiving the title of 2019 Putnam County Schools Spelling Bee Champion! Our PCS Bee Runner-Up was Avery Rader of Winfield Elementary, and PCS Bee  Alternate was Jaxson Davis of Poca Elementary.

Jensine will advance to represent Putnam County at the Gazette-Mail Spelling Bee in March hosted at Capital High School in Charleston.

We want to thank our wonderful spelling bee judges (Sonya Shue, Asst. Superintendent C&I, Debbie Shrewsbury, Director of Elementary Education, and Lynda Rumbaugh, Director of Adolescent Education) and our fantastic guest pronouncer, Megan Tarbett (Director, Putnam County Library) for taking time to join us again this year to help make this a special event for our student-spellers.

Thank you to our event sponsors and friends at Poca Valley Bank! PVB once again generously sponsored our Spelling Bee and donated $50 to our runner-up and $100 to our Spelling Bee Champion! We are beyond grateful for our community partnerships!

We are tremendously proud of ALL of our student participants! Congrats to our PCS Spellers and our new Champion Jensine!
