CASE TRACKING

Putnam County Schools (PCS) will follow the West Virginia Department of Education's School Recovery & Guidance Document for COVID-19 in schools.

PCS continues to work closely and collaborate with the Putnam County Health Department (PCHD), to the greatest extent allowable by privacy laws and other applicable laws, to confidentially provide information about individuals diagnosed with or exposed to COVID-19 as may be required.

Cases of COVID-19 are immediately reportable to the local health department. Under the reportable disease rule 64-CSR7, local health departments have the authority to isolate and quarantine for COVID-19.

For contact tracing, schools work collaboratively with the PCHD to determine individuals required to be placed in quarantine due to exposure. Once contact tracing is completed and the PCHD determines individuals needing to quarantine, at the direction of the PCHD, schools work to notify those impacted/needing to quarantine. 

Responding to Suspected COVID-19 Cases in Schools:

  • School is notified of a suspected case

  • School contacts Local Health Department

  • Local Health Department determines if there is a positive case

  • Local Health Department works with school to do contract tracing

  • Employees and families of positive cases will be notified

PCS CASE TRACKING

Putnam County Schools will track information on active confirmed positive COVID-19 cases within our schools to increase transparency. Information will include the school’s name, student enrollment, number of school employees, the total number of active confirmed positive cases for each school, and the total number of individuals asked to quarantine*.

This is an active confirmed positive case log only. Information will be updated regularly, but at the least weekly, and may not reflect daily/real-time reporting.

*Quarantine numbers may change multiple times throughout the day. Additionally, total school counts may include individuals that have been requested to quarantine due to exposure outside of their school setting. For reporting purposes, quarantine numbers will be updated at least weekly. The quarantine column on the case tracking table will feature the date and approximate time the numbers were last reported.
