Congratulations Brooke Davis! West Virginia 2026 Teacher of the Year Finalist!

Putnam County Schools proudly congratulates Brooke Davis, English teacher at Buffalo High School and the 2026 PCS Teacher of the Year, on being named a finalist for the 2026 West Virginia Teacher of the Year.

The West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) announced the finalists for the 2026 West Virginia Teacher of the Year on July 31, 2025. Chosen from among 55 county winners, these finalists exemplify dedication to their profession and student success through their commitment to student learning and overall success.

Davis, a summa cum laude graduate of West Virginia State University, holds both a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Master of Education in Instructional Leadership. She is currently pursuing National Board Certification to further enhance her teaching practice and deepen her impact on student learning.

Her diverse teaching experience spans middle school and a career technical education center, where she successfully integrated literacy instruction into real-world, career-oriented content. At Buffalo High School, Davis is known for her innovative approach to teaching English. She adapts the Building Thinking Classrooms framework—originally designed for mathematics—to English language arts standards, creating a classroom environment that encourages student collaboration, critical thinking, and ownership of learning.

Davis’s commitment to education extends beyond the classroom. She serves as Faculty Senate president, sponsors the student council, coaches the Academic Showdown team, and has served two terms on the Local School Improvement Council. Through these roles, she fosters a positive school culture, empowers student voices, and strengthens community engagement.

“Brooke’s dedication, creativity, and student-centered approach exemplify what it means to be an outstanding educator,” said John Hudson, Superintendent of Putnam County Schools. “Her leadership and innovative teaching inspire both students and colleagues every day.”

Putnam County Schools celebrates Brooke Davis for her exceptional contributions to education and wishes her the very best as she represents PCS as a finalist for the 2026 West Virginia Teacher of the Year.
