West Teays Elementary top in the state on the 2025 Balanced Scorecard

On Wednesday, November 19, 2025, the State Superintendent of Schools, Michele L. Blatt, visited West Teays Elementary School for a surprise celebration and announcement: an exceptional Balanced Scorecard performance that made West Teays one of the highest-achieving schools statewide.

West Virginia schools continue to show improvements according to the 2024-2025 West Virginia Balanced Scorecard results. Superintendent Blatt, along with other West Virginia Department of Education officials and leaders, celebrated two West Virginia schools, West Teays Elementary and Mount Nebo Elementary in Nicholas County, for their outstanding Scorecard performance. Each school district receives a scorecard that measures progress across multiple indicators, including academic achievement, academic improvement, and student success indicators such as chronic absenteeism and post-secondary outcomes. The Balanced Scorecard provides annual updates to families, communities, and stakeholders on district and school performance.

On the 2025 scorecard, West Teays Elementary exceeded standards for both academic progress and academic achievement in English Language Arts and Mathematics. Putnam County Schools is proud to celebrate West Teay's outstanding statewide distinction and to honor the hard work of the students, faculty, and staff who have achieved this success. 

For the fourth consecutive year, Putnam County Schools continues to achieve excellence, ranking #1 in both English Language Arts and Math in West Virginia.

The West Virginia Board of Education received results from the 2024-2025 student assessments, including the West Virginia General Summative Assessment for Grades 3-8, the SAT School Day for Grade 11, and the West Virginia Alternative Summative Assessment for Grades 3-8 and 11. Putnam County Schools continues to achieve, as indicated by the 2024-2025 West Virginia Balanced Scorecard results. The West Virginia Department of Education released the data, which represents the accountability ratings for public schools in the state, as part of the West Virginia School Accountability System.
