Putnam County Schools kicked off the 2024 academic event season this Tuesday with the highly anticipated Putnam County Spelling Bee hosted at Buffalo High School and sponsored by the Putnam County Library. Β  School Spelling Bee Champions at the elementary and middle school levels competed for the coveted county champion title and the opportunity to represent Putnam County at the 2024 Gazette-Mail Regional Online Spelling Bee. Β  Tamara Rader of Winfield Middle spelled the anticipated championship word β€œrhythmically” in the 15th round to become the 2024 Putnam County Spelling Bee Champion! Spelling Bee Runner-Up was returning county speller Ava Young, an elementary student at Teays Valley Christian. Β  Tamara and Ava will advance to the Regional Bee this March, administered using the Scripps Online Platform. The winner of the Regional Bee will represent the state of West Virginia at the national competition in Washington, D.C. The Putnam County Collaborative Pre-K Program will begin registration for their FREE 4-Year-Old Pre-K Program as follows: Β  Beginning January 17, 2024, parents/guardians may register their child by visiting the PCS website at www.putnamschools.com, selecting the β€œMenu” tab, β€œParents,” β€œPreK,” and then clicking the β€œSign-Up” button to begin the registration process by filling out the questionnaire. Please note that the registration link will not be available until 8 a.m. on January 17th. Β  Nationwide, semifinalists represent fewer than 1% of United States seniors.
